The Lunar Hindi Tithi 8th (Ashtmi) of Sukla Paksha (Sudi) as per the Hindu Almanac, of every month is considered to be very Auspicious day for Meri Maiya Puja. I have given below the English dates of the year 2001 to 2043 on which this day will appear.
On this auspicious day, Meri Maiya bhakts worship small girls (also called Kunjkayen), with Prasad and Lal Chunri, and give gifts in Love to Meri Maiya. It is very much known, Meri Maiya gives HER divine Darshan in forms of these little girls. Meri Maiya Bhakts also perform Aarti, and offerings are offered to Meri Maiya on this auspicious day.
It is said that, on those days when Meri Maiya Ashtmi is on Thursday, i.e. if you see the chart below, 28th June, 2001 one should keep Fast or Varut for Meri Maiya .....

Why is Navratra celeberated?
Navratra is celebrated from the First tithi of the Sukla Paksha of the Hindu month Ashwin to the Ninth tithi. It's the celebration of good or evil, as Meri Maiya has killed the demon Mahisasur, who had been terrifying peoples with his evil desires, after a fierce battle which lasted for Nine days. To remember this day, we celebrate Meri Maiya Navratra.
Navratra is celebrated all over the world with great joy. It's a time all worship Meri Maiya and ask her for her blessings. She is so sweet, no one, is returned empty handed.
In Gujarat (India), Garba is performed. Its a program of Dance and music all through Nine days. Bhakts dance and rejoice whole nights in praise of Meri Maiya.
In Bengal (India), Navratra is celebrated from the First tithi to Purnima tithi or the full moon day. They worship Meri Maiya Kalli devi, swarup. Navratra is celebrated in Bengal with great pompous and joy.
In Maharashtra (India), on the Fifth tithi, Bhakts observe fast (upvas) for the goddess "Upang Lalita", a form of Meri Maiya. On Eight tithi, Bhakts make idol of Meri Maiya with wheat flour and worship and on the Ninth tithi, Bhakts perform puja of arms and ammunitions. This day is also called "Khandenavami" in Maharashtra.
